How to care for your mini lop rabbit. Make sure when you're going to choose your mini lop rabbit, you do see the parents. A lot of times, you won't see mini lops in pet shops.

A lot of times, they will be home-bred. Make sure you see the parents because a lot of people will say they're mini lop but that doesn't necessarily mean they are. They're a lot smaller than the average rabbit but just because of their size, it doesn't mean they don't need just as much exercise.

There are a lot of myths around where they say the males can be quite aggressive. It generally depends on the rabbit. You can get male and female aggressive rabbits.

I say as long as you handle them and give them a lot of time and exercise, that will keep your rabbits nice and calm and keep them nice and tame. Make sure you have everything for your rabbit first before you even think about going to purchase a rabbit. Make sure you have the cage, which should be big enough.

Just because they're smaller, doesn't mean they need a small cage. They should have a normal sized rabbit cage, big enough to have a normal run around. In the cage, there should be a big food bowl, preferably made out of china.

I find the plastic ones, they can gnaw through them so it's definitely advisable to get a china food bowl. There should be a good supply of water, whether it's in a water bowl or in a water bottle. There should be a hiding hut; rabbits are really nervous animals and they do like to have their own privacy so make sure you give them somewhere they can hide.

There should be wood shavings on the bottom or some type of litter that will soak up all their mess and you should have straw on top which they will sleep in. They will also eat it as well and there should be a handful of hay a day. That will help their digestive system.

Make sure you have plenty of fruit and veggies, at least three to four times a week to give them a varied diet and they should have a normal pellet food everyday. Make sure you do be careful what fruit and veggies you do give them; some of them may be too watery and acidic and can cause diarrhea. If you are unsure what sort of fruit or vegetables to feed your rabbit, make sure you ask your local pet store or your local vet.

Now, all rodents, including the mini lop, have teeth that continue to grow and if you don't give them something to gnaw on, the teeth will overgrow and can lead to some further problems. To prevent this, give them a wooden gnaw and different chew toys. Normally, you'll find them in your vets and pets store.

They're coloured wooden blocks which are fruit flavoured which encourages your rabbits to chew. Make sure you handle your rabbits at least once a day. Give them plenty of exercise, fruit and veggies, clean cage, and you're onto a winner.

That's how to care for your mini lop. I'm sure you've got plenty of more questions. Either contact your local vet or give us a call as well. .
