How To Care For Sensitive Skin

Beauty therapist Sarah Chapman shows you how to care for sensitive skin, which you may have if your face has broken capillaries, flushing or allergic reactions. So follow VideoJug's advice on how to combat this.

Step 1: The signs of sensitive skin

Your skin is sensitive if you have broken capillaries in your cheeks, your skin flushes easily, or you have allergic reactions to various products.

Step 2: Patch testing

Test products before applying them to your skin. Apply a small amount to the area behind the ear so it won't be visible. Leave for 24 hours and check the skin to see if it's red, swollen or itchy.

Step 3: Cleansing

Don't use lukewarm water rather than hot water. Use a mild milk cleanser designed for sensitive skin. Remove with water or damp cotton wool.

Step 4: Moisturising

Use moisturiser designed for sensitive skin. Try products containing lavender or horse chesnut which will calm the skin. Your moisturiser should have an SPF of at least 15 to protect you from the sun.

Step 5: Exfoliating

Use a gentle cream exfoliator, rather than a harsher granular exfoliator and apply to your face once a week.
