to annonous, the pen test in not a very good test. id love to see that done with theraphosa bondi. i have a breeding pair at full adult size, they seldom react th a cold object like a pen, they will however strike at your hand, sometimes without warning. the goliath is a very aggresive spider and packs a serious bite. my advice is not to handle any spiders unless you know exactly what you are doing. spiders dont require human interaction so dont give it.

also be aware that many large spiders can bite through the plastic containers used in the clip above. hold the tub by the rim and not underneath the tub. the bite form some legal to own spiders in the uk can inflict severe damage to humans. spiders are unpredictable and in some cases dangerous be coutious and enjoy your pet.

it is sound practice to mist the tank everyday and yes it will assist the shedding. if the relitive humidity is correct your spider shouldn't have problems shedding, i have been keeping spiders for several years and i find that misting the tank is better than just providing water it also helps to keep the humidity stable.

in the uk you dont need a licence to keep many spiders. if you wish to keep spiders on the dangerous animals list you will need to obtain a licence, you will also have to have proven experience and a sacure enviroment. it is also likely the rspca or similar group will vet you and your equipment.

also while im going on one, spiders can get much bigger than 15cm. my oldest goliath is now close to 15 years and she is 34cm and still growing. spiders continue to grow for as long as they are still alive. most however do top out at about the 15cm mark. Great vid though perfect for beginners.

"it is sound practice to mist the tank everyday"

Rosies are a semi-desert/scrubland sp. and room humidity is sufficient, misting is going to put the humidity at around 70-80 and will cause problems.

I do not agree with some of the things this video has to say but for a beginner it is ok
things to know rose hairs or grammostola rosea are from chille and are a semy dry tarantula they are the most bought and sold tarantula and can live for 25 years not 5 Humidity can be lower but when they are about to molt boost the Humidity up. you can tell when you tarantula will molt because it will hide, web itself in and it abdomen will get darker. also a happy tarantula is better than a clean tarantula. I change cages once a year and the substrate should be at lease 4 inches deep. your ground dwelling tarantula will make a home and if you change it too oftan it will stress your tarantula to death. let your tarantula burrow by giving it enugh substrate your substrate can and I recomend 60% sterilised peat moss not gravel ,dirt, garden dirt.or compost. CUT your peat with 30% vermuclite to retain moisture. in sted of changing your substrate every 4-5 months try ONLY feeding your tarantula what it will eat any body parts and spit balls left over take out imedetly as to not attract MITES (spit balls) are the remains of a tarantulas meal. some tarantulas will pile all trash in on spot and poo also so clean up is easy. learn about your pet BEFORE you buy one. and really reserch it. all tarantulas are different. so if your new, start with a rose hair before getting a baboon or a goliath or and ornimental because your new ness could be mental when you have a 8 inch tarantula zooming up your arm biteing to your face. good luck JS Victoria BC canada araknospider@yahoo.com

Many comments in this video are completely inaccurate. First of al...

Many comments in this video are completely inaccurate. First of all, Chilean roses can do perfectly fine at room temperature, so unless you know your house can get cool, do not use a heat pad as it can be a hazard to your tarantula. Second, a dish of water will work perfectly fine, if not better, than gel. DO NOT use cotton or sponges as the tarantulas water, as the tarantula will not drink from them and it is a breeding ground for bacteria. And third, Chilean roses will usually fast longer than a week, they are notorious for fasting months, even up to a year, sometimes that doesn't even mean that they're about to molt. So please do some more research than watching this video before you decide to get a tarantula, everyone will have their own opinion on which is the best way to take care of them, it is up to you to choose which way you think is the best. Have fun with your new tarantula.

This video isn't worth watching, these morons making the video have absolutely no knowledge of keeping and maintaining tarantulas.
