How To Care For Your Pet While You're Away

How To Care For Your Pet While You're Away: Sometimes when you travel, your pet needs to stay at home. Let VideoJug show you the best ways to care for your pet while you're away.

Step 1:

Choose Your Path

A pet owner has a few choices before leaving for vacation.

You can take your dog to a kennel. This can be costly, but can offer your pet interaction with other animals, and even services like grooming. But be aware that it can be difficult for pets to stay in a unfamiliar environment and some pets aren't properly socialized for the experience.

You can also have someone care for your pet at your home. You may ask a neighbor, friend or family member to care for your pet as they might already have a relationship with them. For a more professional approach, you can hire a pet sitter to stop by your house everyday to feed and walk your pet. Pet sitters have more pet-care experience and might be more reliable than a neighbor who may forget to stop by.

Whether you choose a professional or an amateur, you need to take the same steps to make sure your pet receives the best treatment possible.

Step 2:

Ask In Advance

The key to getting someone to watch your pet is to ask in advance. Make sure you're clear about the dates you'll be gone. A good kennel or pet sitter's schedule can fill up fast especially around the holidays and you don't won't to burden a neighbor at the last minute either. There are a lot of logistics to work out. Talk it over and come to a conclusion that works for everybody.

Step 3:

Don't Make 'Em Fetch

After they've agreed to help, supply your pet sitter with all the information they'll need including where the pet food is, where the leashes are kept, and emergency contact numbers if there is a problem. But try and keep your instructions simple, you don't want to overwhelm them before you leave.

Step 4:

Bon Voyage

When you return home, make sure you let your sitter know and thank them. If you hired someone, pay them promptly. For a friend or neighbor, it's always nice to receive a gift from a far away land, be treated to a nice dinner, or get a big batch of your world famous "thank you" cookies.

Step 5:

Retrieve And Reward

When you return home, make sure you let your sitter know and thank them. If you hired someone, pay them promptly. For a friend or neighbor, it's always nice to receive a gift from a far away land, be treated to a nice dinner, or get a big batch of your world famous "thank you" cookies.

aww this was good. Great idea to put something with your scent on the dog if hes/shes going to be staying in a kennel.
