Did you notice that the new replacement battery fitted differently from the battery taken out? Obviously a different car! I have never heard of Lithium grease. I have always used petroleum jelly (Vaseline) to grease the terminals which you would do before screwing the terminals on. I think the two most important things is to check whether you have codes for your Radio, etc. before taking out your battery and that you should unscrew the negative terminal first, and attach the new battery negative last.

You should have a mixture of baking soda and water near by. Simply add baking soda to a full water bottle until it no longer dissolves when shaken. You can use it to clean corrosion off the terminals and tray, and most importantly, you can use it to neutralize any battery acid that may get spilled on you, your clothes, or your car. And it's called a parking brake, not break.

I like how in step 9 and 10, they tell you to wear safety gloves and goggle, but you can clearly see the mechanic using his bare hands to install the new battery. "Do as I say, not as I do!!!!" Otherwise, very helpful!

In many recent cars, the anti-theft devices are triggered if the battery is disconnected. In my car, a 2003 Peugeot, I learned too late that I should have waited at least 6 minutes between unlocking the car and disconnecting the battery (Step 5). Alternatively, I'm told you could have a spare battery to hand and connect that to the terminals with jump leads while the old battery is being removed and the new one replaced. If you do this, beware of the safety warning (Step 6). The alternative is an expensive tow to a main dealer to have the security system reconfigured, for which I was quoted £300, or calling out a specialist locksmith, £65 for a non-urgent appointment.

I changed the battery in my 1999 Volkswagen Passat only to find out that the cars on board computer will not function properly if it looses power during the battery change. The cars idle was completely messed up and barely driveable, requiring an expensive trip to the dealer. The dealer mechanic told me some Volkswagens require that you plug a gadget into the cars cigar lighter in order to maintain power during a batery change. What a hassle.

It should also be pointed out some vehicles have multiple batteries (my '95 Toyota Surf/4Runner for example). You need to disconnect them both, and you need to do both -ve terminals before the +ve terminals when disconnecting, and both +ve then -ve when reconnecting.
