I'm going to show you how to change a computer name. Now, believe it or not, all computers, just like humans, have names. And these names are really useful to help identify your computer on a network.

Try thinking about it a little bit like a telephone directory, where all of us humans have our names on there and it makes it really easy to find us. Now, on Windows machines, it's actually very simple to change this machine name. Sometimes it's also known as the host name.

Let's take a look at how to do it. So if we click on the start button, and on the right hand side here, you'll see a computer option. Now, right click on that, and then click on properties.

Now, if we scroll down, we see a section here called computer name, domain, and work group settings, and you'll see here what the current computer name is. MeetingRoom03. Now, on the right-hand side, it may be a little bit hidden away, there is a change settings option.

We click on that. So here, it lets us change the computer description, but that's not quite what we want to do. We want to change the computer name.

So, looking at the bottom, you see this option: rename this computer. To do that, we have to click on 'change' and here we go. We can see the actual computer name here.

So, if we wanted to change this from MeetingRoom03 to MeetingRoom99, we would enter that in, and then click on 'OK'. A word of warning here is that your computer will almost certainly require a reboot after you've changed your computer name. And that's it.

That's how to change a computer's name. A professional in the tech field explains how to change your computer's designated identity while demonstrating each step on his own computer.
