How To Change Engine Oil
This VideoJug video will take all the guess work out of how to change your engine oil. In this step-by-step video, you will learn how to easily get rid of existing engine oil and replace with new engine oil. Why pay someone else to change your engine oil when you can do it yourself.
In this video, I'm going to be showing you how to change engine oil. The first thing we're going to do is start the car, heat it up to temperature and get all the rubbish that's sitting around the engine down into the sump ready to come out with the oil. Now, we're up to temperature, we're going to take the car up and drain the oil out.
Now, this is a sump, this is what holds all the oil. We're going to get it out by taking out the sump plug. You have to get your drain bowl, remove the sump plug with your fingers, and let the oil drain out.
Just let it drain until it's empty. You need to take about 20 minutes to half an hour to be completely empty. You need to wait until it's to the last drip to make sure it's completely done.
Once it's all drained, get a bit of rag, just sort of wipe up around the sump plug hole just to get rid of any sort of oil. Take your sump plug, just screw it with your hands, pretty much most of the way, that's fine. Take your tool and spin it, and wrap tight like so.
Then, take away your drain bowl and dispose of the oil properly. The next step will be to take the car down and fill up the engine with oil. You have to fill the engine with oil.
You locate the oil cap, most of them have a picture of an oil can on it so it's pretty obvious. You unscrew it and take out the dipstick. Just give it a wipe with the rags if it's too oily.
You fill up a measuring jug with oil and pour it in. It's usually best to put, to start with three liters. Check your oil level after that and then top off until half of a liter until it's up to the next one point.
So that's about three liters. You just need to take your dipstick which has a level on it, to show you here, there's the minimum and there's the maximum. You dip it in the tube, pull it out, and that is maximum.
So, just put it back in, put the cap back on, clean up any sort of spilled oil. Start up the car, just making sure it's out of gear first. Now, the oil level will come up in about ten, fifteen seconds, it will then disappear, which is when you turn your car off and let it settle for about one to two minutes.
Remove the dipstick. After giving it sort of two minutes, just to let the oil settle down, put your dipstick back in, pull it out, and it will give you your reading which in this case is fine. It's just around maximum, so that's absolutely fine.
Put your dipstick back in and you're ready to go. If it needs any more oil, of course, take the cap off, put half in, check again, it's getting very close to the maximum, it's best to sort of put bit by bit, just until it reads the maximum level. And that's how to change engine oil. .
