Choosing a new bike would depend on many things, including the size and gender of the rider, your budget, and where you will be riding.
Hello, my name is John from On Your Bike here in London. I've been a bike mechanic for twelve years. I'm going to show you a few things about bikes.
Things like setting it right and setting it up, selecting the correct size, and a few maintenance tips as well. How to choose a bike is going to be down to budget, where you're going to ride, gender, things like that. This being a lady's bike, it's slightly shorter in the frame, it also has slightly smaller brake leads as well, so it will fit a lady much better.
Also have a lady's saddle which is a bit broader, and also tends to be a little bit more life to it as well. Other than that, depending on where you're riding the bike, you might want something with thinner, higher pressure tires. Like a road racing bike, something like that.
If you're riding on roads, you might want to choose a hybrid or road bike. You'll find it has a bigger wheel and it has higher pressure tire, so it will be slightly faster with the same kind of pedalling action as if you had a mountain bike. This particular model here is called a Brompton, and you'll find these are very popular.
They fold together with only two locking mechanisms, they're nice and portable and if you're on the train, something like that, you can just tuck them where you're sitting, something like that. Very easy to transport and also at work, and things like that, you can use them. How to choose a kid's bike, if you've got the child with you, you want it so the seat's in the low position and they're just on their tiptoes.
That way you get good growth out of the bike. If you're buying it as a surprise, a good way is measuring their inside leg and that will roughly relate to the wheel size on the child's bike. On this one, this has got lots of adjustment.
You can adjust the length of the pedal arms, and also the stem as well is all adjustable on this one. And also the brake leads are adjustable for hand size as well. So, something like that would be a good bike, because there's lots of adjustment, it's going to last longer. .
