How To Choose A Calligraphy Set
How to Choose a Calligraphy Set: This Video Jug clip is a film in which a calligraphy expert from London will help you pick the necessary equipment that you will need before you begin calligraphy. There are many tools that you need, but this video will list the exact supplies you need to get started with calligraphy today.
Hi I am Veiko from the Calligraphy studio in London. Here is a range of different calligraphy materials that you will need when you start.
You will need a pen holder with at least ten nibs in different sizes.
This is a Japanese ink stick, these are available in various colours and qualities. You will need an ink stone to grind the ink. You will also need an eraser, a sharpening stone, a magnifying glass, razor blades and an old toothbrush to wash your pens.
You will need water to mix inksticks or to mix colour. You will need a pencil to rule lines. The best pencil for this is a three millimetre pencil which stays sharp.
You will need a brush to mix colours or feed your pen. Double pencils are very useful for creating big letterforms. You will need a good ruler.
For calligraphy it is best to use a ruler that has lines drawn on it so you can line up your letterforms and check if the edge of your paper is straight. You will need tape.
You will need skin or leather to go under your paper to make sure you have a soft surface on which to write. For practice it is best to use layout paper.
