There are many species of cockatiels but what you have to ensure first when choosing a cockatiel is that you're getting it from a reliable and reputable breeder or shelter.
So, how to choose a cockatiel? Make sure when you go to get your bird, it's come from a reputable breeder, whether it's a recue home, whether it's from a local breeder or the pet store. You want to make sure the conditions they're in and they're nice and clean and have plenty of room, plenty of food and water. Before buying your bird, you want to make sure you have as much information as possible and have done enough research so you understand how to look out for the bird.
Please do not rely on where you're purchasing the bird from. Make sure you're aware of all the care it needs before you even think about getting the bird. When getting the bird, make sure the eyes are nice and glossy, that there's no discharge around the areas.
Make sure the beak's nice and clean and around the bottom is a nice and clean area. The claws should be nice when sitting on the perches nicely and the nails should not be overgrown. They should be nice and trimmed.
If you are concerned about the length of the nails, please go consult your local vet or your local pet store. Please do not attempt to cut the nails yourself. You may cut some nerve and you may not realize that the bird may be in pain.
There are all different types of birds you can choose from, whether it's a pied cockatiel, lutino cockatiel, albino or the mixed colours gray and white, or the greys. Where you go, you should have a nice selection to choose from so you have the choice of all the different colours. Cockatiels are sociable birds.
They should really be kept with two or more. Inside birds should not be kept in the cage most of the time. Most of the time, they should be outside the cage, free to fly around.
Cages should be used for sleeping in, going to the toilet, food and water. Cockatiels are lively sociable birds. They should be nice and lowed when you go to choose them.
You can build up a great bond with them. They're really fun. You can easily train them.
