Here are some style tips on how to pull off that lace trend without looking old-fashioned.
Hi. I'm Zoe Lem, stylist and owner of My Sugarland, and today I'm going to give you some insider's tips on how to do fashion. I'm now going to show you how to choose a lace top.
So, really on trend now, the lace thing is massive and it's a mixture of doing vintage and doing new. So, rather than go really old-fashioned and really vintage, we're actually going for a new style on this one. You just need to be careful about what fabrics you go for because there's such a wide variety of laces.
Some of them can look a bit cheap and some of them can look a bit dated, so it's about getting the right one for you, a good colour for you. The navy is great, a bit different if you're just doing a cream or a white or an ivory, and again, a quite flattering colour on you. It's flattering because it's a dark colour so it's slimming at the same time.
I would do this with just a little nude vest underneath. Obviously, it's see-through being lace, and on here, I've done lace on lace which you have to be careful. Not everyone can pull it off but it's really a great way of doing the trend.
You can mix it up and they look great together but you could do this with a plain top underneath and just the lace jacket or vice versa. You want to keep it slim-fitted so you want to keep this shape around the waist. You can even do this with a belt but you want to just nip in that waist and not add bulk.
You must be careful of your skin tone. If you're going to go for white or an ivory or light coloured lace, you don't want it to be too drainy on the skin. No one has black or white skin, it's all warm tones.
So, you don't want to drain the skin. So, go for something maybe a little bit warmer, so more of a champagne or a goldy coloured lace would be great if you don't want to go for a dark colour. But black and navy can really work.
And then, it's really about taking this away from being kind of 80's kind of stigma with some of the lace, and really kind of funky top and go for that real office chic and add in another texture by doing tones of the same colour. So, the snake navy again, a bit of shine, so it's really contrasting on the textures there. And then around the neck, you want to add a bit of shine so I'm going to add gold.
Gold and navy are great together. If you want to go more statement, you could go for something with a complete mix of texture there so you've got pearls and buttons but again, it's lifting the face, it's lifting the eyes, or go for something simpler and this quite a Kate Moss-y kind of style. You go for the long chain that's got the brightness.
Quite simple, you could do this with a pair of jeans, a little pair of black trousers, a little pencil skirt, there are lots of ways to do it. But if you get the right lace top, it can look really great. .
