Having to choose between a burial and a cremation is part of making funeral arrangements. A funeral director compares details such as costs, place of rest and urns, to make it easier for you.
How to choose cremation or burial. Prior to making the funeral arrangements and indeed registering the deceased's death, you need to decide whether you want to have a cremation or burial. Hopefully, you have spoken to the deceased prior to their death and you would know this.
If not, talk to your family or what is more traditional within your family. Once you've decided, you need to know where you want to have the service. So if it's a cremation, you would generally use a local crematoria or if it's a burial, then you would use your local cemetery.
You might even have a family plot. For cremation, you can use a coffin. But for burial, you can use a coffin or you can use an American casket.
After the cremation, you will have cremated remains. You might want to scatter these in a personal place or you may wish to keep them. Generally, they'll be place to an urn which can be wooden or environmentally friendly wicker basket.
If you had a burial, afterwards, you'd probably want to place some memorial on the grave. You need to speak to the cemetery authorities to find out what type of memorial you're allowed. So before you actually choose your grave, talk to them and then when you come to put the headstone or the memorial on the grave, you will know which type you want.
After the cremation, you might wish to place the cremated remains at the crematorium. This can be done by a rosebush or most places have dedicated parts of the crematorium where you can place the cremated remains and have a small plaque with the name, date and a small message on. So generally, a burial will cost you more than a cremation.
Once you've decided which one you want to go with, work out all your costs and make sure you can pay the bill at the end. And that's how you choose between a cremation and a burial. .
