Some key points for choosing black shorts, I think the first thing I would say is to understand what your skin tone is. Dark shorts can be flattering on every skin tone, but if you've got a medium too, or light to medium skin tone, I would probably opt for choosing a slightly less harsh color. Maybe something like a charcoal or something like a navy or choosing black in a fabric that's not light reflective, the way that these are.

If you're wearing them with bare legs or with tights that show your skin color, it can look quite harsh if you've got very, very pale skin wearing a very dark color next to it. So if you have a bit of flexibility, you might make charcoal your new black if you've got very fair skin. In general, most people can wear dark-colored shorts.

A lot of people can wear black shorts if you've got medium to dark skin; you can wear as much black as you like. When choosing black shorts, just bear in mind that it's also quite formal looking so you'll need to think about what type of things you're teaming it up with on the top half. And also, if you're wearing it very casually just to take away on holiday, there's just the heat factor to bear in mind as well.

Black will be much hotter than lighter colors. Thinking about the fabric issue, just for a moment, the way that you actually wear a black short and the fabrics that you choose can make it look much more or less formal. So, this is a cotton elastane blend.

Some people call this techno-stretch. There is a bit of give in this fabric and because of the tailored nature of that short, this black short look tends to be very, very formal and will need to be styled accordingly. If you're choosing a black short in a much more casual fabric, so this 100% cotton, there's no give to this at all, it's quite stiff, I probably wouldn't put this style of short on somebody who had very, very curvy upper legs or who had very curvy hips and bottom.

This would need to be on somebody who had more boyish hips, straighter bottom, and the nature of the fabric makes this black look quite casual and should be styled up accordingly. So I would do this with flip flops, maybe with trainers, maybe with Birkenstocks and a loose fitting t-shirt. This is not a look that you make formal by wearing opaque tights and boots.

So, a couple of things to bear in mind: the fabric, how that will make the black look. Also, your body shape and your skin tone. If you're very light skinned, I would probably choose navy or charcoal if you can.

If you're medium to dark skin tone, black will be very flattering. Those are a couple of tips on choosing black shorts. .
