How To Choose Fencing Shoes
In fencing, as in all sports, the equipment you use is crucial to get the best performance. In this Videojug guide Karim Bashir, fencing coach and former international fencer for Great Britain, talks you through how to choose shoes for fencing.
Top Tips
- As a beginner you can use a standard indoor court shoe, for example a squash shoe or a badminton shoe.
- Running shoes are not appropriate for fencing because of their high heel and their flexibility.
- As you get more advanced you might want to choose a shoe specifically designed for fencing. These have a low heel, good cushioning, lots of stability, and protection on the inside edge of the shoe for when you lunge and recover.
