Judo uniforms vary from other martial art suits. This video explains its differences and how you can choose the right judo uniform for you.
Okay, now welcome to how to choose judo uniforms. Now, you'll notice that if you can see this judo suit here, it's much thicker than, say, a karate suit which is more lightweight. The reason for that is because in judo, you're going to do throws, you're going to be grabbing the gi, getting it nice and rough in there and you're going to be holding on to these positions here and the sleeves also, okay.
Now, what's important about when you choose a judo uniform is that you don't turn up to your club wearing a different colour as everybody else, okay. The best thing for you to do is to check with the club what colour everybody wears and they might even sort you out with one anyway. Generally, the judo gi's available in white, black, blue and red.
Now, in competitions, but judo is an Olympic sport, remember? You'll find that one opponent will be wearing white and one will be wearing blue. You can get reversible gis. If that's the case and you're looking to do competitions, it's worth getting a reversible gi so that you can enter competitions without having to buy a whole new one, okay.
Usually, black and red are for instructors, okay, or someone who's been doing judo for a long time. But don't quote me on that because different clubs have different colours. The main message is make sure that you know which colour you need before you buy it, okay.
Other than that, make sure that it fits nicely, nice and loose around the joints, okay, around this position here, around the chest, not too tight, enough movement in the gi for you to raise your arms nice and comfortably without this area here getting pulled across too much, okay. So, I hope that helps. That is how to choose a judo uniform.
Always check with your club first so that you get it right. .
