Maternity dresses can show the beauty of your baby bump, and pregnancy and nursing wardrobe specialist Caroline Luxton talks you through options for comfortable and stylish maternity dresses.
Hi, my name's Caroline from Pretty Pregnant. We are maternity and nursing wear specialists. So, we're going to be talking about all your pregnancy wardrobe needs.
When choosing your maternity dresses, always consider you pre-pregnancy shape, and apply the same rules. For example, with maxi dresses here, the length is really great for elongating your body, and the empire line is always very flattering, as it sits at your lowest point. Always look for straps that are thick enough to cover your maternity bra or has a detail that will draw attention away from the strap.
Your next option would be a wrap dress. These are a fabulous option because they're a great V-neck; they enable you to control the shape of your body by how high you tighten them on the waist, and they have the added bonus of having a nursing function and can be used afterwards. High neck dresses are great for petite frames.
They are also great if they are figure hugging and because they emphasize your bump. They draw away from your bust, and embellishment lines are great because they add interest. V-necks are great for larger busts, particularly if it's the deeper V, elongates you body and draws attention away from the bust line.
A capped or three quarter sleeve is also great for balance. With evening wear, always choose a silk or satin as it glides over the bump really easily. An empire line is particularly flattering as it sits at the smallest part of your waist.
Always go for the option with the tie detail at the back as well, as it will help you control your definition. In choosing your fabrics, don't be afraid of prints. They add vibrancy and hide a multitude of sins.
