When choosing hockey skates you will find that your normal skates won't cut the job, you are going to need something like this. These are a few ideas on the type of skates that you will need and the difference between a hockey skate and a normal skate. With hockey skates they are normally made of a leather or manmade material other than plastic.
Plastic is heavy and it will weigh you down. With hockey skates they are much lighter and much lower to the floor. Being low to the floor will stop any hockey balls going in between your wheels.
With hockey skates also you will notice that the stopper is much lower to the floor than normal skates. When you're braking, by the time you get to the bottom your hockey skate will stop quicker than a standard roller skate because the stoppers are that much closer to the floor. Also, once running on stoppers there's a lot wider surface.
If you look at the stoppers there is a much wider area to stop on and they are closer to your wheels. On hockey skates as well you will find that the wheels are much harder, you will get much more grip when moving across the rink, you will find that they have smaller bearings and slightly better bearings keeping your speed up and quickness but also they are laced up very tight to your foot so you've got to make sure they fit well and any good specialist will tell you what size you need. It's important that you lace hockey skates up tight.
You need to fill up your skate. If they are too loose your foot will flap around and you won't skate anywhere. They need to be tight to your feet to give you the quickness and the maneuverability to get around the rink and control the ball.
The last thing you need is your skates falling off. There are also other types of hockey that are on rollerblades. Very similar to an ice skating boot you actually have four wheels in a straight line, so you have two wheels that are slightly lower than the front wheels so you've got more of a rocking motion.
Once you start using skates like this you will find out that its different equipment compared to roller hockey. You will need a longer stick like a nice hockey stick and a ball instead of a puck. The difference between roller blades and hockey and quads which are roller hockey skates as well, you will find that the speed is a lot quicker on blades but maneuverability and stopping is a lot quicker on quads.
They have stoppers unlike blades; they have to use their wheels to stop using the hockey stop motion. With a hockey skate you can use your wheels to stop but you also have a quick stop with your brakes and that's how you choose hockey skates.
