This video guides you through the process of selecting slates for your roof - from the material it's made of, to its cost and how it would look on your roof.
Now, I'm going to show you how to choose different slates for roofs. This is a cambre slate. It's an interlocking slate.
From a distance, it is a natural looking slate which looks really really nice. This is a natural slate, it is a natural stone and it's quite expensive slate. People have obviously a new slate for a new roof or you can get old ones, you can buy restoration plates.
So, you can ask a slate company which will also be cheaper but obviously the newer slate, there's more to it than it is, you know, a sort of 24 by 12 slate here, you're looking at 3 to 4 pounds per one and you know, an average size house should need 1,000 to 2,000 slates to the roof depending on the size of it. So, it can be quite a lot of money to use these. They do look very nice.
A cheap option is to use these machine made fibreglass slates which probably cost you about a pound each and again, they look nice. From the floor, you know, they are a slate. This slate here is obviously, you can nail it to the top and a copper rib here can be held at the bottom so stop the wind flapping because they're quite light but it is a lot cheaper option to use this.
And that's how to choose different types of slate. .
