If you are new to skating and unsure what to wear on the ice, Robert Burgerman will teach you everything you need to know about what to wear for recreational purposes as well as for competition.
So, in this segment, we're going to take a look at what the right ice skating costume is. At first, I'll talk about more recreational clothing and then we'll get into more competitive ice skating clothing. For recreational, it's really really important to make sure you dress warm at all times.
Preferably have your hands covered. The ice itself is quite cold. And wear plenty of layers.
One strict rule is no denim. It restricts your movement and you'll find it much harder to carry out all the moves that hopefully you would've mastered at this stage, anyway. What I would also suggest is to not wear a hood.
It constricts your peripheral vision, anyway. You want to be able to see what's coming around you at all times. Other than that, just be comfortable.
Go out in track suits. Absolutely no problem at all. Ladies, leggings, track suit bottoms, again, just anything that keeps you warm.
And make sure most of your body is covered. Now, we've gone to more competitive skating. When choosing a costume for competitive skaters, you often look at the music first.
Get a bit of a characteristic and find out what fits that music. So, for example, if you were to skate from something like Gladiator, you would use something possibly in that film that shows the whole performance level. The costume is so important when you're doing competitive skating, but it has to act like it's part of the whole performance.
Also, in your recreational skate, if it's your first time, don't be embarrassed. Bring elbow pads, knee pads. Your safety is very very important.
And if you think you're going to go on the ice and not fall over, you're being mistaken. Be prepared for all eventualities and make sure, as I said, the elbows and knees are covered by pads. That is how to choose the correct skating costume for both recreational and competitive skaters. .
