How To Choose The Right Kite
A guide to help you choose the best power kite for you.
Step 1: Pick your sport
You need to decide whether you fancy dry land or water. If you're going to be a kite surfer you'll need an inflatable kite and if land boarding then a material kite is what you need.
Step 2: 2 or 4 lines?
An qualified instructor will teach you on a simple 2 line kite to start with so you get used to the feeling of moving the kite in the wind. However a 4-line kite is much better in the long run. Having the ability to de-gust your kite and bring it out of the wind is a valuable safety tool, but also having multiple power settings will make kiting much more fun as you learn more skills.
Step 3: Ability
Assess your own level. Don't rush out and by the biggest, flashiest kite you can find to impress your mates as you'll look an idiot when you lose control of it or get blown away. Start off with a smaller kite, around a 2.5 metre for land activities, then as you get more confident you can buy bigger kites.
Step 4: Cost
Different sizes, brands and the amount of accessories you get with your kite all vary the price dramatically. If you're going for a second hand kite make sure there are no rips, repairs of pieces missing before you buy. Don't splash out vast amounts until you know that kiting is for you.
Step 5: Kite Reviews
There are lots of websites dedicated to kiting, where you can learn from other users experiences and perhaps get a second opinion on where to splash your hard earned cash www.racekites.com is one of the best.
