Famous London stylist and haircare designer Andrew Jose walks you through how to choose the correct shampoo for your hair type. He gives you secret inside information on how to identify the ingredients on the back of the shampoo bottle that will give you the best result, whatever your hair type.
Hello my name is Andrew Jose, of Andrew Jose Salon in Charlotte Street London. How to choose a shampoo? Shampooing your hair is absolutely essential but the array of choice can be so baffling. If you go into a big drugstore or supermarket or even sometimes your hairdresser, there's so much choice.
What I did when I was designing my range of products JLife was to try and simplify that journey and make it easy as possible and I think what I've done you can use in your every day choices. So the first thing is, what's the most important thing to you? Is it protecting your hair color? Is it giving it volume? Is it making your hair curl more? Or is it simply to make your hair as smooth and as straight as possible? Or is it that you want to wash your hair every day and walk out of the salon and go? So there's the choices you have to make. Now,if your going for color protection.
Which you were looking for this. Then again look for the details of what in there. Is it extra moisturizing? How does it protect the color? You lose most of your color through daylight and through water.
What does it do to combat that? Always have a look at the back. Some of the key ingredients to look out for and the way it conditions and what advice does it give you? So just check out, just take a moment, to look at the back and not just the front. So that's color protection.
Sometimes you'll see, as with this one, that the product itself is iridescent and what that does is to make your hair deeply deeply shine as well as condition it. Volumizing is probably for men one of the most important things, and for a lot of ladies who have got fine hair too. Now the ingredient that adds volume to hair is wheat germ and that's just left in small amounts throughout your hair.
Unless you blow dry it your hair is volumized. Why is it important to men? Well, sadly we tend to lose our hair a bit more quickly than the ladies do. But.
if you got fine hair that a root left a bit of volume that's what it's about. If you choose a shampoo that's here to define your curl, can you expect it to make your straight hair curl? No of course you can't but what you will get is hair that if you got perhaps a small movement to it or slightly frizzy hair then what it will do is actually smooth the hair shaft, encourage the curl and make the hair actually contract just a little. So it prepares the hair ready for styling.
The same can be true of straight shampoo. So this one, which is called Dead Calm, what does that do? Again will it make your frizzy curly hair dead straight? No it won't. But what it does do is prepare the hair for blow drying straight or on straight hair make the hair lay very very evenly side by side together so the hair appears healthier and stronger and straighter so it's prepared perfectly for those of you who want to wear your hair straight.
