How To Choose Your Glass Painting Supplies

Hello, my name's Kevin Shenton. I'm the UK manager of Marabu Creative. We've managed to put together a range of videos showing all aspects of fabric, textile painting along with glass painting and porcelain painting.

I'm going to show you now the type of products you can buy to start your glass painting designs. If we start first with a child type design, most of these are water-based. This is the Marabu Fun and Fancy product available now in 25 ml, this is an 80 ml I have in my hand, up to 35 colours, all water-based, generally quite easy to use, a bit like using an outline paste, generally free and easy to use, comes straight from the nib, and quite flow freely onto your substrate.

So, that's the Marabu Fun and Fancy. It tends to be used officially by children, it's a fun and fancy glass painting and that's a glass painting supply. Also from Marabu is what we call the more professional glass painting products.

This is our GlasArt available in 15 ml and 50 ml around about 2 pounds per jar. The 50 ml which is more than three times in size is about 4 pounds per jar, all solvent-based, available in about 40 colours, all easy to use. You'll need white spirit or some kind of cleaning agent to clean your brushes and be very wary of working with children with these because they are solvent and quite toxic but very easy to use, and again, very easy to use with cleaning because you just use a tissue or a damp cloth with a little bit of the white spirit.

And then, finally really to finish of the glass painting supplies and the glass products, similar products to the GlasArt is the Marabu Decorglas products. This is a Decorglas starter set. We do this also for the GlasArt starter kit.

In this set, there are 6 Decorglas pots very similar size to these 15 ml pots, some free designs, free designs within that kit, and one of the Marabu paintbrushes and a 4 mm paintbrush in that set. This set retails for under 12 pounds, but again the water-based, if you're working with children, is the better product to use because it generally is easy to get out of clothing, less toxic and easy to work with. All of the products are translucent when used.

The Fun and Fancy is more opaque when it's completed and I think I'll bring in to sit you here the effect you'd get with the Fun and Fancy. That's the Fun and Fancy, this is the peel-able glass painting and it literally is very flexible piece of plastic, and again sticks down quite easily and actually gives a finished effect. And then completing the glass painting is the outliner.

Now, the outliner is generally the effect that we would use a bit like we've used here on the champagne bottle. It take a little bit longer to dry, up to 24 hours but generally touched dry in about 12 hours, and generally, that is our outliner paste. To finish off, very last but not least, is using the same kind of technology as the Decorglas is our glass painter pens and they literally do work as if you're working with a felt pen and are ideal, water-based, dishwasher safe and ideal for use with children on any application.

We give rote free designs on our website. This is a card that we have in a number of retailers, are available on a number of websites and again show a whole range of designs, peel-off designs. Here, we've decorated a glass and we've also decorated a plate.
