Like other transportation devices, bicycles have numerous parts that should be in clean well-kept condition so as to function properly. This video segment demonstrates how to degrease a bicycle chain, either at home or at a bike shop.
Hello, my name is John, from On Your Bike of London. I've been a bike mechanic for 12 years. I'm going to show you a few things about bikes, things like saddle height and setting it up so it's the correct size and how to make adjustments as well.
How to clean your chain. Once you've removed the chain from your bicycle at home, you can use degrease. Just spray that onto the chain, and that will get rid of the oil, and the dirt, and the muck.
So you see all that's being cleared, it comes out better. Or if you take it to a bicycle shop, they have a degreasing tank, which is a lot quicker and does more of a thorough job. I'll show you what we use.
This comes out, and then it all goes to scrub the chain. We find it a lot quicker and a lot easier. You can use a lot of the bike components, front derailer, back derailer, wheels, anything like that, we can clean in the tank, and it makes it a lot easier.
Now that the grease is off of the chain, it's a lot cleaner, and it's going to run a lot smoother over the sprockets of the bike. .
