How To Clean An Office Carpet

How To Clean An Office Carpet

Birmingham Carpet cleaner shows how to to clean an office carpet like new without flooding it.

Step 1:

Dry vacuuming

The most vital step. Most of the dirt in a carpet (home or office) is dry. If you add moisture to a dirty carpet you get "mud pies". Avoid this by vacuuming out all the dry dust/dirt first.

Step 2:

Pre-spray

Mist a light solution of cleaning chemical over the affected area. Leave for a few minutes. This breaks down the dirt without soaking the carpet. It softens the dirt, making it easier to remove.

Step 3:

Main cleaning.

Remove dirt with the machine. Do not use too much fluid.

Step 4:

Drying 1.

Use a dry pad to remove as much moisture as possible. Do not use too much heat on a polypropylene (olefin) carpet. This can cause friction which can damage it.

Step 5:

Drying 2

Place an air mover close to the cleaned area and leave until the carpet has dried. This can reduce drying times by up to 80%.

Sorry about the long post. I did split the paragraphs up for easier reading. Somehow, they all got closed up again.

Many thanks for your comments. That's how I was before I used this particular product. I too would have made similar ones until I saw and used this system. Are you by any chance in the USA? For the record, we also use hot water extraction and HOST dry extraction systems, but nothing comes close to this on low profile commercial carpets. We actually get brought in by clients to put right what others have done with HWE. Here in the UK, many clients are now specifying this method in their specifications as the only method for carpet cleaning contracts. I've been in the business for nineteen years and I'd never seen anything like it before. I made the importer demonstrate it in a few "real life" situations before I stumped up the cash! This particular system, known as Dry Fusion is not available in the US due to the voltage difference (110 as opposed to 240 in the UK and Australia). It was developed in Australia where environmental guidelines are very strict. Both pre-spray and cleaning fluid are nuetral (PH 7.2) and you will have to take my word that the chemistry is very sophisticated. The heat is adjustable via a thermostat (patented system) so is varied according to carpet type. As for burning, the cleaning chemical contains a lubricant that helps the pad glide over the floor. This does allow the pads to be wrung out and so allows quick drying times. It also contains two protectors. Again you will have to take my word that carpets definitely take longer to resoil. You may not get to clean places as often but the clients love it. You are right about the pilelifter. it is used purely to remove dry soil beforehand. This video was shot in December 2007 and there is no resoiling showing in this office, six months later. It may be based around a rotary machine and may use pads but it is a totally different beast to bonnet mopping. As I said earlier, if you are in the US, you will almost certainly not have seen this system in operation. Thanks for your comments, it's good to know someone has the consumers' interests at heart.

As a distributor for many types of systems, I would agree with tomg14 and BigJ2. Tomg14 is correct in what you are showing is old technology. As both state, bonnet cleaning is done for a quick top cleaning to get carpets back in service with a very short down time. I can't agree with BigJ2 that is more like soil transferance. It does pick up some soil from the top but it drives more into the carpet and does blend it in. Soil transferance is what we speak about when showing a system like a Tennant Readyspace. Anyone showing this system will explain what soil transfeance is and explain how this is different from bonnet cleaning. The acidic neutrralizer rinse will balance out the higher PH carpet chemicals you left in the carpet with bonnet cleaning. As I said, we sell all systems from wet to dry extraction. They all serve their purpose, you just have to be aware of what you doing to the carpet in the long term.

Tomg14 is partially right. The pile lifter is for the dry dirt and as far as driving in. Not quite. More like soil transferance. If you are trying to put a carpet into service quickly this works fine. We use this method in our offices and every other cleaning we run a neutralizer rinse after bonneting. We also use more of a wet pad than they showed.

Bonnet cleaning is pretty old technology. You're basically spreading the dirt around and pushing it in to the carpet. If someone has not done this before they can burn the carpet if not careful. We use this for a quick fix but there are many better ways to clean a carpet. Take the dirt out, don't blend it in and hide it. Clean, safe, healthy buildings should be your #1 goal.
