How To Clean Diamond Rings
Keep your diamonds forever by knowing how to clean them.
Hi, I'm Cherie Birks from Cool Diamonds in London, Hatton Garden, and I'm a goldsmith here and I've been a goldsmith for nearly 10 years and I trained for that in Australia. But apparently, we sell diamonds mounted in platinum, 18-karat white gold and 18-karat yellow gold. I'm here to demonstrate polishing and resizing of rings and diamond jewellery.
To clean diamond rings, we use an ultrasonic cleaner of which we just use a bath of mild detergent and some ammonia to degrease any grease or tarnish and we just immerse that in there and turn it on. But for cleaning at home, just use some tooth brush and you can brush in the back of your settings using the same sort of quite warm soapy water and just brush in around the backs of your diamonds there and the same goes for earrings and necklaces also. They all work much the same.
Whether it's in white gold, yellow gold or platinum, it will be fine. It depends on how often you wear your rings, I don't wear mine 24/7 but a lot of people do, and if you do that, it's a really good idea to clean them at least once a week and that's it. .
