How To Clean Gold Jewelry

While it can be beautiful when clean and polished, gold jewelry can lose its sheen and luster over time due to an accumulation of grease, etc. This video demonstrates an easy and effective way to clean your gold jewelry using a blend of ammonia and dish detergent.

Hi, I'm Cherie Birks, from Cool Diamonds in London and I'm a goldsmith here, and I've been a goldsmith for nearly ten years, and I trained for that in Australia. Permanently, we sell diamonds mounted in platinum 18-carat white gold and 18-carat yellow gold. I'm here to demonstrate polishing and re-sizing of rings and diamond jewelry.

So, we're here to talk about how to clean gold jewelry. Start with a bath of warm water, with a bit of dish detergent and ammonia that will just be to degrease the gold. This will work for rings, earrings, and necklaces, and various other chains.

So, you just need to sort of soak it in there for a little while, just to get rid of any grease or anything, and then brush around any crevices or cracks or anything. Then, give it a bit of a swish, then give it a good rinse in some water, just to get rid of any detergent. Then dry with a soft cotton cloth, and then you can go over it with a jewelry cleaning cloth as well, and that will just clean up the metal, restore the shine.

And that is how to clean gold jewelry. .
