How To Clean Silver With Aluminum Foil
Aluminum foil, salt and bicarbonate really works for cleaning your pieces of silver.
Hi, I'm Cherie Birks from Cool Diamonds in London, Hatton Garden, and I'm a goldsmith here and I've been a goldsmith for nearly 10 years and I trained for that in Australia. But apparently, we sell diamonds mounted in platinum, 18-karat white gold and 18-karat yellow gold. I'm here to demonstrate polishing and resizing of rings and diamond jewellery.
I'm here to show you how to remove silver tarnish using a foil, salt, bicarb in hot water. So, we just got foil in the bottom of the glass. Just place our silver in there.
Put in the salt, regular cooking salt and some bicarb soda, and pour in some hot water. It will be a chemical reaction between the bicarb soda and the salt and the foil which will theoretically take the tarnish molecules off and transfer them to the foil. So, we'll just give that a bit of a rub around and see how it works out.
It seems to be working, haven't they? Here you go. Then after that, I would just give it a really good rinse and it really does work. That's how to remove tarnish from silver jewellery using bicarb soda, foil, salt and hot water. .
