How To Clean Unvarnished Wood
Clean Unvarnished Wood. Keep your wood in top condition without ruining the look.
Step 1: You will need
Step 2: Mix a cleaning solution
Fill a tub with hot water. Add a squirt of detergent, a sprinkle of bicarbonate, a splash of vinegar and a splash of olive oil. Dip in a household sponge and mix well.
Step 3: Scrub down
Squeeze out any excessive water from the sponge. Start wiping the table with the abrasive side, working in the same direction as the grain. Move quickly, and don't use too much water, this will just soak into the table. Pay special attention to any stains or drips.
Step 4: Wipe
With a cloth, wipe the entire table. You will be able to see the dirt transferring from the table top to the cloth. Again move in the same direction of the grain. If any stains remain rub a second time with the abrasive side of a sponge, but don't scrub too hard as it may scratch. Use the cloth to wipe the area down after scrubbing
Step 5: Condition
Fill a second bowl with hot water. Add just a drop of olive oil - about 15 ml per 4 litres. Take a clean cloth. Mix the water solution well and wring the cloth out. Wipe over the entire table surface. This won't leave behind a greasy residue but will simply condition the table and bring out its natural warm colours.
