Ingredients

  • 1 kg lean beef mince
  • 1 oregano
  • 1 red onion, diced
  • 400 g chopped tinned tomatoes
  • 280 ml milk
  • 100 g mature Cheddar, grated
  • 40 g roux
  • 1 basil, chopped
  • 1 tomato puree
  • lasagne sheets
  • butter
  • oil
  • salt
  • pepper
  • nutmeg

Method

Melt the butter with the oil, then add the mince and season with salt and pepper. Add the oregano and onion and stir. Add the chopped tomatoes and simmer gently.

Pour the milk into a pan, then add salt pepper and a pinch of nutmeg. Bring the milk to the boil, then reduce to a simmer. Crumble in the roux, whisking all the time, until you get the thickness you want. Add the grated cheddar to the sauce and mix until melted.

Once your meat sauce has reduced, add the chopped basil and tomato puree. Mix well.

Pour some meat sauce into an oven-proof dish, followed by some white sauce, then add a layer of lasagne sheets. Keep layering the dish, finishing with a sauce layer.

Bake in the oven for 30 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius.
