How To Cook An Easy Shepherds Pie

  • 500 g lamb mince
  • 12 Maris Piper potatoes
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • tomato ketchup
  • 200 g cheddar cheese
  • 1 onion
  • 100 g mushrooms
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 2 tsp mint sauce
  • 2 tsp gravy granules
  • 2 carrots, diced, cooked
  • 3 tsp dried mint
  • 2 margarine
  • 100 ml milk


Peel and chop the potatoes and add to a pan of water. Bring to the boil, season and simmer.

Add the minced lamb to a pan. Add the chopped onions, mushrooms and garlic and stir continuously. After a couple of minutes, oil will form out of the meat. Remove this with a spoon. Turn the heat down and continue to stir for around 5 minutes. Add the Worcestershire sauce, tomato ketchup and mint sauce and stir.

Add the diced cooked carrot and gravy granules and leave to simmer for around 5 minutes, until the mixture thickens.

Drain the cooked potatoes. Add butter and milk, season well and mash. Pour the cooked lamb mixture into a casserole dish and lay the mashed potato on top, spreading it out evenly with a fork. Sprinkle the grated cheese and mint on top and cook in the oven for 45 minutes at 190 degrees.
