How To Cook Fennel

Today, I am just going to show you a really simple recipe. That is a fennel and I am sure you know that. I am going to show you a very nice recipe of how to cook it and once I am doing that, I am going to talk you some other ways.

Now, you have already got the pan nice and hot, just to save a bit of time, and I have got a nice sharp knife and I'll cut some lovely pieces of fennel. So, I am going to give the pan a swirl and you need to be careful because you don't want the butter to burn and when it burns, you lose the point of what we are trying to achieve here. I am going to lay these slices of fennel and give them a little shake and then after some time, I am going to turn them over.

Butter is going to make whatever I put on these, to stick. There we go, just slightly untidy way of demonstrating but you get the general idea. This is sizzling away nicely and once this is sizzling away, I am just going to add a little bit of sugar to caramelize them and some fennel seeds.

Give them a little shake and they'll cook down. Once I do that, I am going to take some of the herb off the fennel because it's a nice herb and then roughly chop them. There is not a huge amount here.

I am going to turn the fennel the other way. You can cook this down to the texture of your choice. Personally, I like it just a little bit cooked and I'll put a little bit sugar in there, not too much and some of those fennel seeds again, pinch of salt and little bit of black pepper and now I'll sprinkle the herb from the fennel and I'll let this cook off for about a minute and a half.

While we do that, I can talk to you about other ways of doing it. Another way is you could take the top off the fennel and then just slice lengthwise and if you fry them, you can put them in a roast dish and add a bit of stalk, cover in tin foil and place in the oven and they would perch quite nicely. Well, those are cooked and I feel this is the most beautiful way of cooking fennel.
