How To Cook Long Grain Rice

Rice is a great addition to any meal or on its own. Soft, fluffy and full of flavor. Lean the best way to cook this versatile grain. VideoJug has the way!

Step 1: You will need

  • 4 cups (1000ml) basmati rice
  • 4 cups (1000ml) water
  • 2 tbsp butter

Step 2: Rinse

Pour 4 cups (780 g) long grain rice into a strainer and run it under cold water. This removes excess starch and impurities in the rice. Rinse until the water becomes clear. Strain any additional water before cooking.

Step 3: Boil

In a large pot, pour approximately 1 cup (250 ml) water for ever 1 cup of rice. Allow the water to cover the rice an additional inch. Turn the heat to high and bring to a rolling boil.

Step 4: Simmer

Once boiling, cover with a lid and turn the heat down to the lowest setting. Allow the rice to simmer for approximately 15 to 20 minutes. At the end of 20 minutes, turn off the heat and remove the rice from the hot burner. Let it stand an additional 5 to 10 minutes.

Step 5: Season And Serve

Add 2 tbsp butter and stir thoroughly. You can add any seasonings you like. The rice will become light and fluffy as you stir. Serve the rice in a bowl with your favorite dish or as a main course. Serve hot and Enjoy!
