Dealing with the loss of a beloved pet can be difficult to express and may not necessarily be met with a lot of support. This video describes how to begin coping with that loss and how to express your feelings related to it.
Intense grief is quite normal when a pet has just died. Don't let anyone tell you that you are being silly or irrational in the way that you are behaving. You know your true feelings.
Accept that you are grieving. Accept that someone is actually missing. Because for you, your pet is like a person in the household.
The most important step you can take is being honest with yourself, and really saying to yourself ,I feel in a lot of pain. I feel anger, I feel upset, I feel sadness. Sometimes, it's advisable to join a pet loss group.
You can find one on the internet. If your family and friends have pets, they will understand the process that you are going through. Express your feelings to them.
Don't be afraid to explain the emotion that you are feeling at present. This will all help to the process of you actually progressing through this grief. Accept that you may never actually get over this loss.
It is not advisable at this time to go out and replace your pet. Give yourself permission to grieve and be patient with yourself as you go through this process. When you reach a time that it feels right for you and your family to replace a pet, it is advisable not to get a look-a-like as this may bring up emotions that possibly you have not yet dealt with.
Most importantly, do try and be very open about your feelings. Or as I said previously, join a group so that you can discuss these things together. Thank you. .
