How To Create A Best Man's Speech In PowerPoint
Everyone thinks the bride and groom are having to do all the work day when it's their wedding. No one spares a thought for the poor sap who has to take on the role of Best Man. Not only are there some fairly hefty ‘responsibilities' to adhere to, you have to get up in front of everyone and deliver the most gut-wrenching speech of all. Get it right, you're a hero. Get it wrong, and you've ruined the ‘special' day she's been dreaming about since she was an 8-year-old little princess.
Step 1: Sort Out A Projector
Hire a projector and a laptop and make sure it's all working properly and you know which buttons to press. The last thing you need is to be struggling with wires at the last minute and ruining everything. Maybe you can blag something from work?
Step 2: Setup
Using PowerPoint for a Best Man's Speech is just such an insanely clever idea; forget all the fumbling about with notes scrawled on a tatty piece of A4 and holding up little tiny photos that Aunt Agnes stuck at the back of the room has precisely zero chance of seeing. This is the future.
What's more, clicking a button and having a PowerPoint presentation pop up is pretty much a guaranteed laugh.
Now the actual content of your speech is up to you. But keep it sweet and funny rather than embarrassing, Watch VideoJug's How to be a Best Man: The Speech, and you should do ok.
But before all that, set up a new PowerPoint document and get to work. Add slides in order so you can progress through them steadily.
Step 3: Photos
You can add photos nice and easily through PowerPoint, and they'll be projected nice and big so everyone can see. Simply click “Insert Photo from File”, browse to the image and pop it in there. You'll see at the top a whole host of options; change the border, make it 3D, change the shape. There's loads of stuff to do to make it visually compelling, so have a click about.
If you're clever and funny, why not add a clever and funny caption to the photo? Slap in a text box and type it in. For a quick and easy way of making it look Ultra-Smart and professional, click “Convert to SmartArt”, which will make it look like a proper Graphic Designer did it.
Step 4: Movies and Sound
If you've got any audio or movie clips stored on your mobile phone, don't forget you can embed them into a PowerPoint document for playback on-screen. Perfect for that time the groom did something stupid once, in a bar, and you happened to catch it on your mobile.
Step 5: Charts
Everyone loves a good chart, and they're most unexpected in a Best Man's Speech. Make a feature of the fact you've gone all-out with PowerPoint and go over the top and nerdy with your graphical representations of the most obscure minutiae of the groom's life. Everyone'll love it.
Step 6: Transitions
When you're done, don't forget to makes sure you over use the number of ‘transitions' between slides. PowerPoint has a blistering array of graphical effects, and it'd be a downright shame to not use each and every one of them at least once. Our favourite is “Shape Circle”, because it makes it look like the end to Star Wars.
Oh go on. Give yourself a pat on the back. You've just written a Best Man's Speech to remember.
