Good tutorial overall, however- Dark liner on the inside not only makes the eyes look smaller and more "closed" but it is VERY UNHYGIENIC. **COSMETICS should NEVER be applied INSIDE THE EYE RIM.** This is begging for trouble- infections, allergic reactions. I worked in an Ophthalmology Clinic and this is a definite NO-NO, so is sharing your cosmetics or applicators with another person. This is simply common sense, like not sharing your toothbrush! PLEASE STOP perpetuating this practice! Really, SHE LOOKS GREAT, UNTIL then. But in one stroke of a liner pencil, she goes from attractive and "perfectly respectable" to "town floosie"! Great if you're looking for an easy pick-up at a night club, but much less useful for gaining the respect of colleagues at the office. "Poor Sally. No wonder she can't find a decent man that treats her right, she looks like a cheap hussy from the wrong side of the tracks!" Ladies over 30- LESS IS MORE! The black eyeliner is rather harsh for her colouring and age too. Softer shades, in mattes, not shimmers or shiny are best too. Unless your skin-tone is naturally deep, stay clear of really dark shades and black eyeliner. Please use cosmetics with reasonable care. Excellent tutorial on smokey eyes! The comment about the danger of wearing eyeliner on the inner rim is a little hysterical. As long as the pencil is sharpened before each use and not shared it is hygenic and there is no danger of contamination. The model looks great for 30's!

For the Avril Lavigne look, just go for black kohl eyeliner. Rather than going inside the lid (eew) go above the top and bottom in a nice thick band. Finish off with mascara, and perhaps a sweep of dark grey or black eyeshawdow over the upper lid. Works for me!
