How To Create A Sparkly Evening Look
Make-up artist Lauren Dunn shows you how to create a sparkly evening look using metallic eyeshadow.
How to create a sparkly evening look
Step 1: Applying the Base
Firstly, apply a luminous foundation over any areas of discolouration using a foundation brush or your fingers, being careful to blend well along your jawline and around your hairline.
Apply concealer around the nose and on any blemishes or red areas, using a brush and then blending with your finger.
Use an under-eye concealer to the darkest areas just beneath the lash line. Place the product onto your skin with a brush and pat it in with a finger. Under-eye concealer can also be applied to the inner corners of the top eyelids to even out the skin tone.
Set your base with a translucent powder to keep the make-up in place and create a matte look.
Step 2: Cheeks
Give your skin warmth with bronzer on the areas of the face that would naturally catch the sun, such as the forehead, nose and cheekbones.
Next, apply a cream blusher to the apples of the cheeks, by patting it onto the skin and blending up and out. For an evening look try using a blusher with a shimmery finish.
Step 3: Eyes
To help your eye make-up last longer, apply cream eyeshadow in a neutral colour over the entire eyelid using a small brush or your finger.
Then, for a metallic sheen, use a loose pigment powder and apply with a flat eyeshadow brush,
Starting from the lash line and moving up to the crease of the eyelid.
Blend the powder with a round tipped blending brush, and finally apply it along the lower lash line with a thin eyeliner brush.
Next, use a black /brown pencil or gel eyeliner along the upper lash line, taking the line up at the outer corners to enhance your eyes.
For a smokey look, smudge the line with the spongey end of the eyeliner or your finger.
Next, use the pencil to draw a line along your lower lashes, making sure it meets the line you've just drawn.
You can also apply the eyeliner on the inner rim of each lower eyelid to really frame your eyes.
Finish the eye make-up with 2 coats of black mascara, moving in a zig-zag motion through the upper lashes, and then brushing the wand across the lower lashes.
Step 4: Finishing Touches
Neaten your eyebrows by brushing them up and over with a clean mascara wand. If there are any gaps, apply eyebrow powder or eyeshadow with a slanted brush to give yourself a smooth contour.
For an extra bit of glamour, use a shimmer brick over your blusher and just above the cheekbone.
Apply a silver highlighter on the inner corners of each eye and under the eyebrows to really open up the eyes.
Finally, finish the look with a coloured lip gloss.
