How To Create A Sports Collage
This video talks about how to make a sport collage
Hi! I'm Nick Malone and I'm an artist based in London we run classes here at the studio for beginners here at the studio. You can always find us at our website www.londonartclasses.
com and there's also a link to the londonartclasses.com from the internet page that you're on at the moment. We're going to have a look at how to make a sport collage.
With collage remember you need a firm base on which to glue or attach the material that you are going to use you may want to use just a piece of heavy card or a piece of prepared board, something like this in the kind of color that you want. I'm using white here but of course you can paint it any color or whatever and you have your images from sport already lined up. These are some images from a magazine and what you want to do is to cut out those images that you find particularly exciting.
So maybe you think that that looks rather fine. So you kind of put that into the collage there. You think “hey wouldn't it be great if we had an image of some people actually operating the yacht” so we cut out the image there and we put that maybe next to it like that, and we keep on combining them in a way that on the one hand uses the images that you find most exciting but at the same time we can arrange them in ways that you would like.
So you can build up as many images as you want and then maybe you could use a little bit of blue tack to finalize how you like them and then draw around the outside of these pictures and then you can lift them off and stick them down and sticking them down what I suggest you do is use acrylic medium. Like gloss medium like this which is rather runny or you could use or you could use acrylic medium in a tub but once you've decide how you want your collage to look, you then put the medium on the back of the photo and stick it down firmly on the base. Acrylic medium is good because it's not going to corrode any of the photos that you use and if you decide to paint with acrylics on top of it and of course the acrylic medium and acrylic paint it all goes together very well and you build up your collage from there.
The big thing of course with collages is that it sets you free. So you get those images that you find exciting, maybe you build them up overtime until you've got just the images that you think are particularly special for that sport that maybe really dominates your life.
