How To Create Curly Updos For Long Hair For Prom

Prom is such a milestone in a teenage girl's life. Everything needs to be perfect from hair to shoes. Watch this video and learn how to create the perfect updo for prom that you're going to love.

I'm going to show you how to do a correct curly updo for prom. First, you need to prep the hair. So, we created a lot of curl.

I decided to use curlers today to create a full bouncy curl and then we brushed it out so the curls are now all separate. And if you have a prom, you're probably going to be dancing all night. So, we're going to make the back of it really secure and firm.

You're going to start with just twisting the back area first. We're using a Mason and Pearson brush and you brush it into the palm of your hand in an upward motion from the corner of your nape area. If your hair is really fine, you might need to do a bit of back combing first.

But if your hair is, if you've got a little bit more hair like this, you don't need to do the back combing because you've probably got enough volume already. Now to get a twist to stay secure, what you need to do is put a sectional clip, open it up, scrape it against the scalp, grab another one and scrape this next to the scalp and you cross hatch it so you cross one with the other and that keeps it a lot more secure and then do one more. And this should be slightly off center and you'll see why in a minute.

And another one, but this time, I'm going down the hair. Now, we brush the hair in the opposite direction and we create a twist in this area here and you open your grip and you get a little bit of hair from the scalp and you'll roll and you go down the hair shaft that way. And through this area here, you just use a tall comb, push that in and grip it into place.

Use a bit of hairspray just to those ends. Now, through the top, you're going to go for a looser and structured look and we're going to leave the ends hanging out a little bit. So, it's nice and formal through the back area and gripped in really tightly so you know it's going to last all night.

Through the top, we're going to keep a little bit more soft and natural. So, we're just going to grab pieces of hair and literally just, grab it about half way down and pin it into the scalp area. And if you've got curly hair, the more random and the more you just kind of take pieces of hair rather than just finishing off with a comb, the better it looks.

There should be a sense of freedom with curl. We're going to piece out through that side as well. With curly hair, the less you touch and fuss with it, usually, the better it looks.

So that's why kind of, you need to go a little bit almost. Don't spend too much time fluffing with the hair. So, there you have the final updo.

It's nice and formal and structured at the back. So, that's going to make sure it's really secure. And through the top, just loosely pin your curls and keep it nice and soft and quite random.

And that's how you can create a curly updo for prom. .
