How To Crochet A Scarf

Homemade crochet scarves are very fashionable, and make great gifts. In this step by step guide Bee Clinch, crochet tutor at Makedomenders, shows you how to make a scarf with a bobble pattern.

You Will Need

  • yarn
  • crochet hook

Method

Start by making a foundation chain of twenty stitches, plus one; you can make it longer for a wider scarf.

The first row is a row of trebles; so chain three with a turning chain, and treble into the fourth chain from the hook. Continue trebling until the end of the row.

The first two stitches of the next row are double crochet, so turning chain of one chain. Then do a five treble cluster into the next stitch; pull the yarn over and into the next stitch, make a partial treble pulling the yarn through the first two loops leaving the last loop on the hook; when you have six loops on the hook, pull through all of them and close it with a chain to finish that stitch. Do double crochet in the next three stitches. Do another five treble cluster in the next stitch. Another three double crochet, then another five treble cluster.

The third row is a row of treble, preparing it with three chains. Be sure to treble into the chain at the top of the bobble.

The next row is another row of bobbles, but they are going to alternate with the previous row. Start the first four stitches with double crochet, followed by your five treble cluster stitch.

Keep crocheting until you have a scarf of the length you want.
