How To Curl Long Hair

In this VideoJug film, Isabella Hyde from the Rush Creative Team shows how to curl long hair. She goes step by step with her easy-to-learn instructions that will have your hair curly and beautiful in no time.

We've already dried off Lisa's hair. Just make sure it's really nice and dry all the way through so when we start using the tongs on the hair, it's nice and dry so we don't burn the hair. It's really important that you try and use some hairspray before you tong each section.

Now, through the back, I'm going to take quite large sections because it is quite hard to take small sections by yourself. So I'm going to start off by dividing the hair from just below the ear down to like the neck. I'm going to clip away all of the top hair, and then we're going to take the tongs, quite a medium sized tong.

Make sure the hair's combed nicely. Take the tong in through to the bottom of the hair just wrapping the ends into it. Okay, so we're going to hold the tongs into the hair until the hair's nice and hot.

So don't unravel the tongs, just slide them out gently and then it's going to be much easier to pin it into the head if you slide the tongs out rather than unravelling them. Otherwise, you have to ravel it back up and pin it in. So my first section is just going to go parallel to your hair line, diagonal back, section away the rest of the hair, and another fine spray of hair spray, and just wrap the hair into it.

If you have a really fine bit and you think the rest of the hair is going to fall out, just wrap it around at the same time as wrapping the rest of the hair into it. So we've just finished working the tong in exactly the same through the other sides, and we've just sectioned another three sections across the back and rolled them going backwards and just pinned them in. So I'm just going to leave this on for 25 minutes or so.

Just to really let the curls set in, another coating of hairspray as well. And in about 20 minutes, I'm going to take all of this out. Okay, so I'm going to start with back ones which are nice and cool now, and as I unpin them, you can see we've got a lovely, loose curl.

Now if you feel like you can do more than this at home on your own hair, if you take slightly smaller sections, you're going to get a stronger curl. So just gently take them all out. You can tip your head upside down, just start to shake out the roots of the curl.

Just get your hands in there and just shake out the roots but leave the ends as they are so that we can just really loosen it. Just spin you around. And that is how to curl long hair from straight to curly.
