Kitchen fitting is easy, well it is for me, I've been doing it for years. My name is Yves Way and today I'm going to give you some basic tips on kitchen fitting.

In this video I'm going to be showing you how to cut plasterboard or drywall as it's known in the US.

We're going to be cutting a square hole in purpose, to install this cavity electrical back box. We're going to start by selecting the height we want the back box. In this case we're going to go 150 mil.

I'm going to level that line. I'm going to choose my distance I want it to start away from the wall, 160 mil for this positioning.

I'm going to position the back end of my back box onto my level line, draw a pencil line around the box, and that's going to be my cut out line.

Remember to mark along the back edge of the back box, because if you mark around the front edge, when you cut your hole, the whole box will fall through. This box has a small lip around the front of edge which will catch the plasterboard when you insert it.

I'm going to use a small space drill bit, just drill a hole, just to allow me to get my saw into the plasterboard.

I'm now going to use my saw to work my way slowly up and around my line. I'll work back across to the other corner and I'll work down the lines as well. I'm going to drill a small hole into the other corner and do the same procedure.

Now we've cut the hole, I'm going to insert the back box. For this exercise we're shown you how to cut plasterboard to insert a back box. The same principals can apply to any size hole you need to cut in your plasterboard wall.

Whenever cutting plasterboard, keep an eye out for whatever might be behind it. Check for existing electrical cables, pipe work or any stud work that might be holding the wall together. .
