Hi, my name is Nic Davis from Simplicity Remastered and I'm here to show you five basic cutting techniques. To create a square layer, if you picture a box, you would lift the hair straight up and cut straight line. You would then lift hair straight out to the side cut the straight line again.

So when you lift the hair up on the side you will have a perfect corner.
