How To Deal With Cat Anxiety
When you have an anxious cat, be sure to approach them slowly as to not spook them. Make sure they have a comfortable place to sleep and maybe even try lavender or rosemary oils to calm them.
I'm just going to go through a few tips of dealing with cats that are anxious. One of the things you need to look at making sure they have comfortable bedding areas, normally in corners of beds, under beds, places like that where they've got means of escape, where they feel most comfortable. Never areas that are noisy or too stressful or where they're going to be confronted by people coming in and out.
That would help an anxious cat de-stress. Also, if you look at making sure they have lots of mental stimulation, games and activities. This isn't just play; it's looking at making ways of actually having to work at food.
Hiding things in boxes, cat boxes, crinkle bags, ping pong balls, dangling things that they can play with so it stimulates its senses. Another thing is actually providing an herb garden with rosemary, parsley, mint. They like those sort of smells.
They'll go and have a chew of those and that will sort of, make an anxious cat de-stress a lot more. You can use things like lavender oils, rosemary oils. Spray around the house.
Air fresheners - lavender is very good at de-stressing cats. Don't be too overcompensating on feeding on hormones and attention. If you've got an anxious cat that's around your feet all the time, we tend to overcompensate.
Give them attention all the time. That will actually reinforce that behavior so try and act naturally around them. Keep them to a natural routine as well because that will help them relax in the environment.
Approach calmly and be very jolly when you approach them. Try not to spook them in any way. Another way of keep a neurotic cat happy is when you're stroking them.
It's actually using your fingers around the facial glands to stimulate the pheromones and that will keep them very, very, very relaxed. I've just gone through a few tips on how to deal with an anxious cat. .
