How To Deal With Cockroaches

Step 1: HOW TO TELL IF YOU'VE GOT THEM
Most cockroaches are15-24 millimetres in length; They have spiny legs, and 2 antennae on their head.
The Common Cockroach is the type you're most likely to see in your house.
You can always tell if you've got cockroaches because you can see them.
Cockroaches can cause a lot of damage in the home. They can contaminate your food and make you ill; damage your wallpaper and books, and make your house smell horrible!
Cockroaches are associated with dirt and this how you find out where they are coming from.
You basically lie in wait for them and see where they are coming in by a process of elimination. First thing you think about is the drains . when you've got that covered you start looking at other entrances to the room like ventilation fans and other entrances and accesses that they might have. They don't normally come in through the windows. Normally it is through the drains, through the vents or the electrical box system.
Cockroaches also leave some other clues to announce their presence . . . their droppings. They just poo as they go - so once you see those brown slime stains you know that you've got them.
If you have an infestation of cockroaches, it is important to get rid of them as soon as possible, because they breed very quickly.
Step 2: HOW TO GET RID OF COCKROACHES
If you have discovered evidence of cockroaches in your home, and the infestation is not too severe, here are just a few of the ways to eliminate them.
One product available for domestic use is insecticidal spray. Use it with care if you have domestic pets.
Use it in areas where the animals don't normally go like behind washing machines and behind dryers, that's a favourite hiding place of cockroaches.
The sprays are instantaneous, you will spray something it will die immediately it gets touched.
Another effective treatment is to place cockroach bait in an area where you know they'll pass. The bait is contained within a safe childproof container and consists of
a slow acting insecticide incorporated into a food attractant.
It's a very slow working poison so basically the cockroach will take whatever food it finds back to its nest, other cockroaches will participate, so basically the theory is that you are eliminating the entire nest.
Another proven solution is to use a cockroach trap. These attract the cockroaches and trap them on a sticky adhesive.
Place the trap in an are where you know the cockroaches will pass.
There are numerous brands and they are easily available from your local hardware shop, or online.
You can also use liquid concentrates such as Ajax Expel. Follow the instructions and add to the water when you wash the floor. This will keep the cockroaches at bay and is very effective.
Always use any of these products with caution. Read the safety instructions on the label. they are there to protect you and your family from harm.
