How To Decorate A Dorm Room

Here's an interesting idea on how to bring personality and vibes into a bland dorm room.

Hi, I'm Adrienne Chinn. I'm an interior designer based in London, England. Today, I'm going to talk to you about an aspect of interior design.

Today, we're going to do a quick and easy design for dormitory room in a university or college. You get there, the room is pretty bland, it would be nice to do something as you're going to be there quite a few months, so what I've done is taken a London theme, an England theme, and pulled together a fun design for a dorm room. So what we've got here, a couple of really funky cushions that you can throw on the bed.

These are cheap and cheerful. Pick things like this up at shops or online and at these cheap and cheerful online stores. These are made of felt.

It's the queen and obviously, it's the Union Jack in tones of gray. Now, this is a fantastic thing for a dorm room. What I've got here, this is a decal that you put on the wall and I've got The Beatles.

There are lots and lots of different images you can get. You can search online. There's a lot of companies that offer this kind of thing.

The nice thing with these is you peel them off and you stick them on. At the end of the year, you pull them off the wall and there you go, that's all you need to do. So what it is really, you've got John, Paul, George and Ringo, and that's a vinyl.

It's sent to you and it looks very much like this, so what you get is this vinyl and when you go to put it on the wall, you peel off the images. It gives you instructions how to do that, you end up with John, Paul, George and Ringo, you stick them up on your wall, very easy, you peel off the back, and then you've got quite a funky design without having to paint the room or anything like that. So we've got The Beatles, we've got our fun funky London cushions.

This is a digitally printed fabric. These are quite fun now. You can get these in different places online shops.

This is a big clock of fabric, so it's a photograph that's been put on the fabric. That could be quite fun to, well, maybe get your mom or get somebody to put a little curtain together or something like that. That's quite fun, and then this fantastic wallpaper, this is quite fun.

It's got a 3D effect to it. I quite like that and rather than putting it on a wall, what you can do is wallpaper a panel like a panel of MDF or something that you get at a DIY store, and just wallpaper that and you can put that leaning on the floor against the wall and it just give a really fun reflective surface and to add a little bit of interest into your funky dorm room. The thing about dorm rooms is that you're there temporarily, you don't own the place, so it's very unusual that you'd be allowed to paint the walls or put in your wallpaper on or do anything like that that's permanent.

So, doing a scheme like this is fun, it's temporary, doesn't cost you a lot of money, gives the place a bit of a fun vibe, a good fun place to stay for the eight months or so you're in the dorm room, and it's easy to take it all down in a few hours when you leave.
