How To Detox Your Mind And Body

Most people only associate the word detox with the denial of certain foods or alcohol, but it can also be a great way to care for your body and mind. Let VideoJug now show you a variety of ways that you can detox your mind and body.

Step 1: Dry Skin Brushing

A great way to de-clog blocked pores and stimulate the lymphatic system is to carry out dry skin brushing. Using a skin brush with fairly firm bristles, start at your extremities and direct your brush strokes towards the body. Brush down the back of your neck and from the centre of your chest outwards to the armpits. You should try to do this every morning for 5 minutes as it also increases the body's production of sebum, our natural moisturizer.

Step 2: Cold & Hot Shower

To maximise the effects of dry skin brushing you should have a hot shower straight afterwards. Towards the end of your shower turn the temperature down to cold for the last 30 seconds. This helps to improve blood and lymph circulation which increases the body's ability to eliminate toxins.

Step 3: Tongue Scraping

Unfortunately, one of the downsides of detoxing is that in the first few days you may experience a coated tongue which will give you bad breath. Luckily Chemists and dental practices sell tongue scraper's which you can use to keep your tongue clean. Alternatively you can dip a soft toothbrush into a glass of warm water and lemon juice and use that to give your tongue a good scrub.

Step 4: Epsom Bath Salts

Epsom salts are excellent for baths when detoxing as they draw toxins such as uric acid out of the body through the skin. They are also claimed to have a sedative effect on the nervous system and help to ease muscular aches. Just run a full bath adding two cups, approx 450 grams, of Epsom salts to the water and relax in it for 15 minutes. During a detox try to have an Epsom salt bath every 3-4 days.

Step 5: Warning

Before you plan to follow any detox programme you should seek medical advice if you are
- pregnant
- breastfeeding
- taking prescription medications
- are currently undergoing any medical treatment
- you are recovering from a serious illness or major surgery.
