In this film, VideoJug provides easy, step-by-step instructions on how to do a 3 turn in figure skating. All you have to do is stay on your feet.
So, in this section, we're going to learn how to do a 3 turn. A 3 turn is one of the first turns your actually learn in order to turn from forwards to backwards. It's quite a technical little turn that we do here so there are various stages of it.
The most important thing is, the reason it's called a 3 turn, is that when you look down at the tracing on the ice afterward, you want to create a shape as if you're doing a three. Also, ensuring that you actually have an outside edge going into it, coming out to an backward inside edge. You can also do inside 3 turns.
Again, go from an inside edge, turning to a backward outside edge. If you're doing backward 3 turns, then you're going to go from a backward outside edge to a forward inside or a backward inside to a forward outside. So, there are the different variations to the 3 turn.
I'll demonstrate for you the forward outside 3 turn. First stage is that you're going to take an outside edge. As I said, left arm over your left foot, right arm over your right foot, rotating your body.
As you rise up to actually do the turn, as you rise up to do the turn, you're going to bring your feet together. The instep of your right foot is going to come to the heel of your left foot. So, I can demonstrate the first stage, push, rise up, face into the circle, in that direction.
I will show you that particular stage again. So, you're going to bend, push, rise up, rotate, bring your right leg in prior to you turning. Very important, once you're actually in that first position here, to pull back with that right arm, forward with your left arm, and then check, in other words, hold onto the position, on a backward edge with your right hip open and your right shoulder open.
So, you understand, your backward edge travelling in that direction, in that position there. That's how you do a forward outside 3 turn. I think we'll be going to a forward, inside 3 turn.
Again, we're going to do it on the right foot. On this particular section, you're going to start with your left arm slightly ahead of your right arm. So, slightly opposite, we're going to push onto our right foot.
You're going to push, rotate into the circle again, bring your left foot into the right standing foot, you're then going to turn to backwards, and hold onto that position there. I'll demonstrate again. Left arm slightly in front, you then rotate around into the circle, left foot comes in.
You want a forward, inside edge to a backward, outside edge checking that right side back. And, that is how you do forward 3 turns. .
