Watch and learn what you can in this instructional video on ballet positions. It's great for kids and a must see for all you proud parents out there.
We're going to show you how to do a degage ballet position. So at the bar and we're standing in third position, let's take the arm to second to prepare, making sure the posture is correct, the back is lengthened and degage means to disengage. So we're going to take the foot from a closed position to an open position, stretching the leg and we'll do devant.
So stretch devant, that's degage devant, and closed, good. So when we take the degage try to strengthen the foot by going through half of the foot, so stretch to half, pushing the floor away and then fully stretch, really using the thigh muscle and then bringing it back in through half and close. Again keeping the legs really straight and the thighs pulled up.
Now we're going to try a degage in each position. So degage devant, one and two, close three and four, to second, one and stretch, close behind, three and four, derrière half and stretch the leg and close four, and to second. One and stretch and rotate, close three, and four, if you want more information about our ballet classes or our other dance classes, tap, modern, and street jazz, please visit our website.
