How To Do A Fly Drawing

Hi, I am Simbie Yau. I am an illustrator, I graduated from University of Lincoln. Today, I am just going to be showing you how to draw objects.

This is how you draw a fly. I am going to just start off drawing the main body with a pencil. This is essentially a curved rectangle that I am doing.

Then I am going to be doing its third part of the body, which is a pointed tail; and then the head. Then I am going to place in the eyes. Then I am just going to roughly draw where the arms and legs will be.

The second set of legs and then the third. Then I am just going to roughly draw the wings, just going to draw it at an angle, like quite wide wings. Just try and get them quite even, take a look at it and then continue with the shape of the wings.

These wings are going to have a second part and I am just going to roughly draw it. The second part is just like a curve and then angled into the body and then, antennae. This is the general rough guide using pencil and now, I am just going to be going over it with a pen.

Then I am going to use a slightly thinner pen, to draw the upper legs. Generally, have the legs angled and then have it straight with the length, with the body like this, so it is in line with the body and then have its feet angled outwards. It is going to have a small curve at the end.

Then shape the wings. I am just going to add a few more details, such as the eye, I am just going to draw some lines and then I will be drawing the antennae. Just going to draw small sections like this and then towards the end, a longer one.

I am going to go back to using pencil just to outline the veins of the wings and let the wings branch out and then, going back to your thin pen. So I am just going to finish off by perhaps adding a few more details on the skin and shading the body a little bit and this is how you draw a fly.
