How To Do A Lutz Jump
This is a film that demonstrates how to do an ice skating manoeuvre. If you're new to ice skating and want to impress your friends, then this video will help you to learn a new ice skating jump, the lutz jump.
I'm going to talk you through how to do a lutz jump. The skater will perform backward cross carts in a large circle, they will then stand on a left back outside edge. This is very important that you are actually on the back outside edge.
The weight needs to be firmly over the skating leg, left side thrown front, right side back, so there is a check and a control there. The skater will then bend the skating knee strongly, they will extend their free leg back behind them and place the toe pick into the ice and pull up and through into the counter clockwise rotation, bringing their right side through, taking their left side back through the air. The landing position will be on the bent knee, free leg extended back behind and the upper body pulled up so you're standing up nice and straight.
It's important with this lutz jump that this entry is from a back outside edge, because if it changes edge onto an inside it, then becomes a flip jump which is a lot easier to perform. And that's how to do a lutz jump.
